stage 2: a little more

Once your baby is happily eating from a spoon, you can increase the range of foods you offer to include:

•Purées of lean meat or poultry

•Purées of lentils or split peas

•Purées of mixed vegetables with potatoes or rice

•Purées that include green vegetables, such as peas, cabbage, spinach, or broccoli

Try to limit the number of sweet or cereal purées to one a day and always include a vegetable purée once each day. Gradually make the food a thicker consistency.

Spoon out the amount you think your baby will eat and heat it up, rather than heating a large amount that then goes to waste. As in stage 1, for safety’s sake, get rid of any of the heated food that your baby doesn’t eat. If you prepare larger quantities than you need, freeze small portions for later use, for example in an ice cube tray.

You can move gradually from solid food at one feeding a day to serving it at two and then three meals.
